Taia's First 5K - 6/12/2010

It was raining so I put the Rain Shield on BOB to protect my personal trainer. We waited in Peak Performance until the the 9 a.m. start on the Keystone Trail.

Race Report:
We lined up between the runners and the walkers because I didn't want to hold anyone back or knock anyone over with BOB. In the first 5 seconds of the race, I realized that I needed to get around a lot of people and made the moves necessary to run at a comfortable pace. I guess running 3-4 times a week with Taia in the stroller on hilly, West Omaha sidewalks made for a very fast and easy run on a relatively flat, asphalt trail.

I looked around to see which runners were listening to music. Basically those who did not have ear buds or tunes pumping each turned around to see what the commotion was - it was Taia. She talked and screamed the first 2 miles and through the turnaround. During the middle of the 3rd mile she quieted down a bit. We tucked behind an older balding dude in a white shirt, and she began to yell, "Da! Dada! Dada! Dadadada!"

After we finished, I overheard the man telling his wife, "I could hear a baby babbling behind me the whole time"! I apologized and said, "She likes bald guys; she thought you were her dad". Rodney took an early flight home from his MN business trip and watched us roll into the home stretch. The finish line was off in the grass, so BOB and Taia got a little off-road action.

We finished 3 seconds after 23 minutes, the 2nd female overall, 1st in the stroller division (haha, if they had a stroller division). They gave out a prize for the overall winner for each gender and then went into age group awards, so technically I got 1st place in my age group F-30-39.

Denny, Taia and Me after our first 5K together, Child Connect's Run for the Young.

Taia was ecstatic to see the real Dada.

Taia actually deserves the medal, she did cross the finish line ahead of her Mama.
